This site holds my notes on the origins of the Moore family of Lindley Yorkshire
and the Palmer family of Tenterden Kent. With genealogical research false trails are inevitable and
therefore whilst every effort has been made to check information unless a source reference exists
please recheck the information with documented sources before use.
Lindley sits high on the moors of Yorkshire, and was during the 18th & 19th century the home
to the extended family group named MOORE. During the mid 19th century this group numbered over
300, more than 10% of the recorded population. Life and the climate was harsh, the main
employment being quarrying, mining and livestock farming. Between the mid 1800's and 1900 there
was a general move towards the towns and work in the mills therein.
Tenterden is one of a group of villages between London and the English Channel, straddling the
Kent - Sussex border. The Palmer family has over the 18th & 19th century occupied several of
the nearby villages of Parham, Wadhurst, Hawkhurst. The main pre-occupation of the family was
farming and gardening, there was little movement of the family until the early 1900's.
As time and research allows I shall attach pages of notes which will build on the various
lines and related family groups based around the various villages.
Feel free to forward information or corrections you feel of value to moore_search@bigfoot.com,
where it will be inserted under acknowledgement.
